Passion can come from many places, but once it takes root it can transform even the most humble daily activities into special moments. It is something to be celebrated and encouraged in all its forms.
In this first episode, we take a look at fountain pens and why they have been a consistent presence in Jean-Claude Biver’s life for decades. Fountain pens can be beautiful objects that employ different crafts and artisanal techniques, from enamel and gold inlays to lacquer and engraving. The nibs are shaped by hand, with their own aesthetic beauty augmenting the handwriting of the user, giving it a unique personality and expression. Just as a musician might pick up a different guitar to change his or her “voice,” so too can a writer select a particular pen to give their words a special character on the page.
A fountain pen also encourages the user to approach their writing differently altogether. “When you write with your hand, you give another impression to the words,” says Jean-Claude Biver. “And when you write with a beautiful pen, the tendency is to write beautiful words.”
